Analysis of Key Elements in Potable Water Using the Avio 220 Max Hybrid Simultaneous ICP-OES

Introduction

The quality of potable waters is affected by many factors, including geology, geography, pollution, and leaching from pipes used to transport water. Therefore, knowledge of water quality is important for both consumption and industrial use. Key elements to monitor include aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn), as well as minerals: calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), and sodium (Na).

This work focuses on the analysis of potable waters using the Avio® 220 Max hybrid simultaneous ICP-OES, measuring the elements typically analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), ion chromatography (IC) and flow injection analysis (FIA) at required levels. With its unique characteristics, the Avio 220 Max ICP-OES system is ideally suited for laboratories with moderate sample loads, simplifying potable water analysis by replacing several techniques currently used and providing excellent performance at lower operating costs compared to a fully simultaneous ICP-OES.
